“Without the Lake Oswego Schools Foundation, our children would not have the educators we do have. Without the Foundation, we would be lacking,” says donor and parent Maxine Walkenhorst.

Maxine and her husband, Christian, have been dedicated supporters of the Lake Oswego Schools Foundation since 2018. Together, they are the proud parents of three Lake Oswego students—two graduates and a rising 10th grader at Lakeridge High School—and have experienced firsthand the impact that exceptional teachers have on their children's education.

In addition to their generous philanthropy, Maxine has given countless hours of volunteer leadership to the Foundation, serving on the Board of Directors and as Board President during the 2023–24 school year. Christian, a partner at Ernst & Young, has also been a strong advocate for investing in public education and creating opportunities for every student.

Legacy of Service: Drs. Bill and Ricky Korach

For Drs. Bill and Ricky Korach, education has been more than a career—it has been a lifelong commitment to students, teachers and the Lake Oswego community.

Longtime supporters of the Lake Oswego Schools Foundation, the Koraches have been part of the Foundation’s story since its inception. As superintendent of LOSD, Bill championed the creation of the Foundation. When Measure 5 passed in 1990, creating significant funding challenges for schools across Oregon, LOSF became an increasingly important source of support for the district. Bill and Ricky understood the need to find new ways for the community to come together and provide critical resources for Lake Oswego students and teachers.

Ricky earned her Master of Science degree from Portland State University in 1986 and spent 46 years teaching English at Lake Oswego High School. She served as English department chair for 30 years and retired in 2011 after teaching more than 6,000 students. Her profound impact on generations of students is honored through a wing of Lake Oswego High School that bears her name.

Bill began his career as an English teacher before becoming principal of Lake Oswego High School. He later served for 27 years as superintendent of the Lake Oswego School District. When he retired in 2014, he was Oregon’s longest-serving school superintendent. Throughout his career, Bill received numerous honors for his leadership in education, including Portland State University’s Outstanding Alumni Award and Oregon Superintendent of the Year from the American Association of School Administrators.

Bill and Ricky exemplify a simple belief: Nothing is more important than the education, safety and well-being of children.

Their story is one of service, leadership and an enduring belief in the power of education. From Lake Oswego classrooms to future generations of students and educators, their impact continues to shape our schools and our community.

Laura Coyle, Director of Legal Operations at Sift Discovery, LLC, has supported the Lake Oswego Schools Foundation since 2019. As a parent of a seventh grader at Lake Oswego Middle School, she values strong educators and enriched programs.

“I support the Foundation because I want every student to have access to exceptional teachers and opportunities,” Laura says. As Board President, she helps fund additional teaching positions and programs that benefit students across the district.

Outside of work, Laura enjoys Sundays with her son during football season, cheering for the Seattle Seahawks. We’re grateful for Laura and all our board members whose leadership helps keep Lake Oswego schools among the best in Oregon.

Originally from Washington (a proud WSU grad!), Mark went on to study law at Willamette before ultimately settling in Lake Oswego—“for the schools, of course!” His wife, Tenley, is a Lakeridge alum, and their son is now a 10th grader there. Over the years, Mark has been continually impressed by LOSD, noting the dedication of teachers and administrators who truly prioritize students.

A CPA and financial services professional with more than 30 years of experience, Mark also gives generously of his time, volunteering with Rotary, the Chamber, and Lake Oswego youth sports. He currently serves as a member of the Foundation’s Board of Directors, deepening his commitment to supporting local students.

Mark and Tenley have supported the Foundation for nearly three decades, making their first gift in 1997. For Mark, giving back is about investing in the strength and future of the community. He believes in ensuring that every student in LOSD has access to the opportunities, programs, and resources that make a lasting difference and sees the Foundation as a powerful way to help make that happen.

For Ella and Jeremy Mills, supporting Lake Oswego schools is personal. As parents of two students—one at Lake Oswego Middle School and one at Lake Oswego High School—they have been active supporters of the Lake Oswego Schools Foundation, both as individual supporters and through their business sponsorship.

Ella is deeply engaged in the school community and currently serves as PTA President at Lake Oswego High School, giving her an up-close perspective on the experiences, opportunities, and needs of students and families.

Ella is also the founder of Biella Lighting Design, a local firm founded on the belief that great design should be as functional as it is beautiful. She brings creativity, collaboration, and thoughtful problem-solving to every project. Her work has received regional and national recognition.

As parents, community members, business leaders, and volunteers, Ella and Jeremy demonstrate the many ways a family can invest in the schools that serve their children and community.

Sara Hasan and Dan Geiman are deeply invested in both their family and their community. Sara, a Portfolio Manager at Bridge City Capital, brings a strong financial background and a passion for thoughtful investing.

As proud parents of three students in the Lake Oswego School District, a fourth grader at Oak Creek Elementary and a sixth and eighth grader at Lake Oswego Middle School, Sara and Dan experience firsthand the value of our community’s commitment to a strong and caring public school system. Their connection to the district is personal and heartfelt, driven by a belief that every  student deserves the chance to learn, grow, and tackle the challenges of the world around them. 

That belief led them to start supporting the Foundation in 2021. In 2022, Sara deepened that commitment by joining the Foundation’s Board of Directors, where she contributes her financial expertise and dedication to community service. By investing in the Foundation, they are helping ensure that all students—across every school—benefit from the exceptional opportunities that make the Lake Oswego School District so special.

Their philanthropy reflects a shared belief: strong schools build strong futures for our communities, and supporting education today creates a brighter future for everyone.

Trevor and Krissy Mullins began supporting the Lake Oswego Schools Foundation in 2024, inspired by a deep belief in the power of exceptional public schools and the role they play in building a strong community. As parents of two daughters - one currently at Forest Hills Elementary and one entering kindergarten this fall - their commitment to Lake Oswego schools is both personal and enduring.

Trevor, a Director at Nike, grew up in the Bay Area, and Krissy, Chief Operating Officer at software firm LeadVenture, grew up in Wisconsin. When they moved to Oregon for Krissy’s role in 2018, they unexpectedly found both a beautiful new place to explore and a community they wanted to build their lives around. Their belief in Lake Oswego is so strong that in recent years they convinced Trevor’s parents and cousin to move here as well, drawn by the schools, the sense of connection, and the exceptional quality of life.

For the Mullins family, supporting the Foundation is of course a way to invest in their own children, and also in the future of the entire community. “We support the Foundation because strong schools are the foundation of a thriving community, and every child deserves the opportunity to learn, grow, and flourish.”

Outside of work, the Mullins family enjoys spending time together and making the most of Oregon’s natural beauty, especially swimming in the summer. Trevor assistant coaches Lakeridge’s water polo teams. The Foundation is grateful for families like the Mullinses, whose generosity and commitment help create lasting opportunities for Lake Oswego students.
