Special Initiative - Elementary PE Teaching Positions 2025-26

The Lake Oswego Schools Foundation exists to raise funds that support teaching positions in every school, helping to ensure all students benefit from a high-quality education across our district. This mission remains our central focus.

At the same time, in light of the LOSD budget shortfall, the District has heard from many families who are eager to go above and beyond to preserve full-time PE instruction at the elementary level. In response, and in collaboration with the District and parent community, a special initiative has been created to fundraise for Elementary PE Teaching Positions.

Fundraising for Elementary PE Teaching Positions in 2025–26 is a unique effort—separate from our Annual Campaign—that provides a pathway for those who wish to make additional contributions to help retain full-time PE in our elementary schools.

As always, all gifts directly support teaching positions across the district, and it is the District’s role to determine which positions are funded.

We are deeply grateful for the generous support of our community and remain committed to ensuring every student has access to enriching educational opportunities.

Frequently Asked Questions

What is the elementary Elementary PE Teaching Fund?

At present, many elementary parents are expressing concern over the potential loss of PE instruction and are seeking ways to help. The District has granted permission for families to fundraise specifically for elementary PE teaching positions through a special initiative, with the Foundation serving as the sole entity capable of directing private donations toward teaching roles. This is a parent-led, district-approved, and Foundation-enabled initiative powered by community collaboration and a shared commitment to keeping PE in our schools.

How can I make a donation?

If you'd like to mail us a check, kindly send it payable to LOSF at the address below:

  • Lake Oswego Schools Foundation
  • P.O. Box 70
  • Lake Oswego, OR 97034

What will funds collected for the Elementary PE Teaching Fund be used for?

All donations made to the special fund will be used to support PE teaching positions at each elementary school in the district.

Can donations be designated for a specific school?

Donations cannot be designated for a specific school. Each donation supports the overall fundraising goal to support teaching positions at each elementary school in the district.

What is the goal for the Elementary PE special initiative?

The total goal to retain elementary PE positions for the 2025–26 school year is $400,000, which is $150 per student. Reaching the goal would at least double the amount of PE time currently forecasted for the 2025-26 year and ensure a certified PE teacher at every elementary school for 2025-26.

When do donations need to be made by to impact staffing for 2025-26?

All funds must be received by June 30, 2025, in order to count toward staffing decisions for the 2025–26 school year.

Can the green button be changed on the PE teaching positions page on the Foundation website?

We explored in depth the possibility of modifying the green button to link directly to the Elementary PE Teaching Fund donation form. However, the top section of our website is part of a fixed template, and therefore, we are unable to adjust the button itself. As an alternative, we have added a clear and accessible link to the PE Fund at the top of the Annual Fund donation form. This ensures that if a donor lands on the incorrect page, they can easily identify the appropriate link and navigate to the correct form.

What is the Lake Oswego Schools Foundations role?

This initiative will be powered by volunteers. The Foundation will continue to handle all operational responsibilities, including:

  • Processing donations and issuing receipts
  • Providing excellent customer service
  • Managing refunds, as needed
  • Communicating with donors
  • Keeping accurate records and reporting progress toward the fundraising goal
  • Notifying the community of any outstanding items

What if I or another donor accidentally donated to the annual fund but we meant to donate to the elementary PE fund? How will that be caught and tracked?

Every donation that comes into the Elementary PE Fund we are leaving in that fund.

Every donation that come into the Annual Fund we are applying the following protocol:

  1. If a donor has no previous giving history, no open pledge, and an elementary affiliation (as a parent, grandparent, or other), the donation will be automatically applied to the PE Teaching Fund.
  2. If an elementary parent has an open pledge and donates the exact pledged amount, the donation will remain allocated to the general teacher fund/Annual Fund unless the donor specifies otherwise.
  3. If an elementary parent with an open pledge donates an amount that does not match the pledged amount exactly, we will reach out to clarify their intent.
  4. Any donation to the annual fund from an individual who we confirm has no elementary affiliation will remain in the general teacher fund/annual fund.
  5. If we receive a gift to the annual fund from a donor whose affiliation cannot be determined based on available information, we will contact the donor for clarification.

What happens if the fundraising goal is not achieved?

At the end of the campaign, we’ll update you on where we stand and whether we’ve met our $400,000 goal. If we are unable to reach it, rest assured—we will provide you with options. You may choose to receive a refund (less 4% if you paid by credit card due to processing fees) or redirect your donation to the Lake Oswego Schools Foundation Annual Fund, which supports teaching positions across the district.

Note on refunds:

  • For donations made by credit card, 96% of the original gift will be refunded. Credit card processing fees are not recoverable.
  • If you chose to cover the credit card fee at the time of your donation, your refund will include both the base donation and the additional fee you covered—minus the 4% processing charge.
    • Example: You donate $100 and cover fees with a $104 total charge. Your refund would be $104 minus 4% = $100.
  • Donations made by check or cash will be refunded in full via check.

What happens if a surplus of funds are received?

If the campaign raises more than the $400,000 goal, the additional funds will be reserved to support PE teaching positions in the 2026–27 school year.

Can Foundation 2024-25 donations and pledges be redirected to the Elementary PE Teaching Fund?

Funds already donated or pledged to the Annual Fund cannot be redirected to the Elementary PE Teaching Fund. Your support of the Annual Fund continues to help fund teaching positions at all eleven schools—thank you for your commitment to district-wide excellence.

What if I want to make a recurring donation?

While recurring donations are always appreciated, they will not count toward the $400,000 goal for 2025–26 staffing unless the entire donation amount is received by June 30, 2025. Recurring donations are better suited to support staffing for the 2026–27 school year.

Will funds need to be raised each year to support the PE teaching positions?

The same amount plus around 3% will need to be raised to keep teaching positions for the school year 2026-27, which is $412,000.
