Be sure to sign up for the Foundation’s annual luncheon at the Oregon Golf Club on January 30th where Michael Jones will be our inspiring guest speaker. Michael is one of the country’s most successful angel investors and he attributes this in part to local teachers who helped shape his entrepreneurial spirit.
After graduating from Lake Oswego High in 1993, Michael studied Marketing and International Business at the University of Oregon. Since that time, he has made a career out of investing in future opportunities and growing businesses ranging from early-stage startups to private equity-backed companies to public media enterprises. Michael’s investment career highlights include more than $2.5 billion in exits, including HelloSociety (acquired by The New York Times), FameBit (acquired by Google) and Dollar Shave Club (acquired by Unilever).
Currently the CEO of Science, Inc., a startup studio, Michael was previously CEO of Userplane (acquired by AOL), Tsavo (acquired by Cybermedia), PBJ (acquired by JB), MySpace (acquired by Specific Media) and FIM (acquired by Rubicon Project). He started his first company in college at the University of Oregon’s International Business School where he was named ‘Student Entrepreneur of the Year’ in 1997.
We encourage you to join us for our annual luncheon to hear Michael share colorful memories of his student years in Lake Oswego along with his experiences investing in innovative online and mobile businesses. This year’s Foundation campaign theme is ‘Supporting Bright Futures.’ Michael Jones is living proof of the importance of that mission.
Lake Oswego Schools Foundation was founded 31 years ago because our community wants more for our students. Michael Jones was one of the early beneficiaries of our tradition of paying forward when it comes to education. Be sure to join us as we welcome him back to Lake Oswego at the annual luncheon!
